Trevi Fountain

Nestled inside the busy city of Rome, Italy is the Trevi Fountain. Although it may be an iconic location on its own, what makes it even more popular is the fact that it is also famous in films. Having it be featured in so many different movies makes it all the more popular, but the one that stands out to me has to be The Lizzie McGuire Movie which made it even more interesting to see in person knowing a scene was filmed there. Naturally we all had to spend an hour or so taking photos in front of it as well as videos of us each throwing our coins in. Now whether they came true or not may still be a mystery, but it is definitely an experience that I recommend. Since this is a fountain it is a free tourist attraction for people to visit as they please. But, with every positive comes a negative and this one is that because it is free, everyone is always visiting. While we were there, I couldn’t even count the number of people waiting to get their pictures with the fountain. Everywhere you looked someone was right up next to you and at times it could feel crowded, incase anyone gets claustrophobic. I was actually shocked when we first showed up at how many people were there at the same time as us, and I don’t picture it getting any less crowded at other points during the day. Our group actually spent a decent amount of time at this location which was nice because we didn’t have to rush around and feel like we missed out on anything. We claimed our little space in the corner of the fountain because there was just no shot we were getting our turn in the middle. Since a lot of people come to throw in their coins and make a wish the Trevi Fountain actually takes all of those coins and puts them to good use. When the fountain is open it can bring in a couple thousand euros a day and every night the coins are collected and given to a local charity that gives rechargeable cards to Rome’s needy in order for them to get groceries. Therefore it is actually considered illegal to go into the fountain and take out coins. With these laws in place they do have guards on stand-by just to make sure the tourists are following their rules. No one is allowed to sit, stand, or even touch any part of their body into the water and this is in place to make sure no damage is done to the property. Since tourists have grown more demanding these rules and fines had to be put in place to make sure they know their boundaries and don’t disrespect what other people consider home. The Trevi Fountain is gorgeous at any point during the day, but if you really want to see a spectacle it does light up at night-time. From photos it looks just as nice lit up but if you can’t go at night that doesn’t mean you are missing out on anything either. This tourist site is great for kids and adults of all ages which makes it very family-friendly. Rumor has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain it means you’ll return to Rome in the future, so you might as well throw one in just for safe keeping.

    1. Thank you! I love hearing everyone’s feedback and I was also happy to know that they donate the money in order to help people who need it. Hearing that was the case, made me happy I threw some coins in while I was there.
